影片讲述花季少女安妮·弗兰克（艾丽·肯德里克 Ellie Kendrick饰）为躲避纳粹和家人一起藏匿于密室的生活记录。两年充满恐惧和迷惘的密室生活，让写日记成为了安妮生活中最大的乐趣。她认真的记录着这段辛酸岁月的种种苦痛和弥足珍贵的欢笑快乐，自由的只有她的思想。可不幸还是在两年后降临在了这个家庭，他们被送往集中营。坚强乐观的安妮和其他家人朋友都不幸遇难，只有她的父亲幸运逃生。战争结束后，安妮的父亲决定完成女儿的遗愿——将这本日记出版问世。安妮最后一篇日记写于1944年8月1日，《安妮日记》记录下了在纳粹统治下，人民苦难的战时生活，成为仅次于圣经的一本最畅销的读物。 影片根据安妮·弗兰克同名自传体小说《安妮日子》改编。BBC邀请电影版《傲慢与偏见》编剧黛博拉·莫盖茨执笔，再次将这部作品搬上荧幕。

While fishing used to be a way of supporting oneself, wealthy London tourists have now descended and are displacing the locals, whose livelihood is thus threatened. The relationship between brothers Steven and Martin is also strained. Martin is a fisherman without a boat, since Steven started using it for far more lucrative tours for all the day-trippers. They’ve sold the family cottage and now it seems that the final battle to be fought is that with the new owners over the parking space next to the sea. Yet the situation soon gets out of hand, and not just because of the wheel clamp. Bait is a black-and-white film shot on hand-processed 16mm. Numerous close-ups of fish, nets, lobsters, wellington boots, knots and catch baskets bring to mind the theory of a montage of attractions. The depiction of the different social strata – one could speak of class relations – is also reminiscent of the tradition of social realism in British cinema. Above all, however, a whole lot of current political relevance is waiting to be discovered beneath the different layers of film historical references contained in the images.
